Parents and Children in Stay-At-Home Parent Family Groups: 1995 to 2006

Table 64 of the 2008 US Statistical Abstract

The Statistical Abstract files are distributed by the US Census Department as Microsoft Excel files. These files have data mixed with notes and references, multiple tables per sheet, and, worst of all, the table headers are not easily matched to their rows and columns.

A few files had extraneous characters in the title. These were corrected to be consistent. A few files have a sheet of crufty gibberish in the first slot. The sheet order was shuffled but no data were changed.

The tables that were changed (this is table 64):

This dataset consists of a table of 18 rows and 7 columns.

In thousands. Family groups with children include those families that maintain their own household (family households with own children); those that live in the home of a relative (related subfamilies); and those that live in the home of a nonrelative (unrelated subfamilies). Stay-at-home family groups are married-couple family groups with children under 15 where one parent is in the labor force all of the previous year and their spouse is out of the labor force for the entire year with the reason ‘taking care of home and family.’ Only married couples with children under 15 are included. Based on Current Population Survey; see Appendix III
